A child’s nervous system develops at a rapid rate - just like their skeletal structure.
Children may benefit from chiropractic care even before they are born. A mother with a chiropractic lifestyle, along with a healthy diet, proper exercise and a stress free environment has a greater chance of delivering a healthy and happy baby. As birth can be one of the most traumatic events we’ll ever experience, the most important time to begin chiropractic care is as a baby. Chiropractic has long said ‘You’ve never had a chance since birth’!
Being born is not easy!
Even so called ‘natural births’ can cause trauma to a developing spine and may often cause many baby health problems, such as colic, projectile vomiting, constant crying, inability to sleep, breathing problems and poor appetite, to name just a few. The initial uncontrolled head movements and early falls cause subluxations to the baby’s delicately developing spine. If neglected, the falls and traumas during this vital period of rapid growth and development may lead to serious spinal problems later in life such as scoliosis, ‘growing pains’ and a weakened immune system.
Many parents notice their children are healthier, happier and develop more quickly than non-chiropractic children. Interestingly enough, the chiropractic problems found in adults usually began during childhood.
That question would be best answered when we explore the cause of spinal problems. The most common problem is Vertebral Subluxation, which often occurs for the first time at birth. Research suggests that 80% of babies immediately following birth are subluxated because of the stress placed on their spines during the birth process.
90% of babies at this stage remain asymptomatic (no signs of problems). However, even though they may not be experiencing symptoms, they may not be not truly healthy. Remember, the nerve system supplies and coordinates the function of the whole body and those symptoms are usually only experienced much later in life. In fact in many cases, by the time symptoms are present, the damage may be well developed.
After the age of 13, many abnormal spinal curves are as difficult to correct, as they are in adults, and are very often not associated with any symptoms.
If your child was one of the lucky ones to go through birth without subluxations, then research tells us that 98% of children will have subluxations before the age of 5.
Most of the subluxations that we have as adults were caused before the age of 5!
As soon as they have a spine AND as soon as they can!
Chiropractic adjustments should begin as soon as there are subluxations. Since most subluxations occur at birth or during the years when our bodies are developing and growing, we should maintain our spines from birth on a regular basis throughout our lifetime. Doing this allows a child to have an excellent potential for complete health from early on in life.
First of all, it will greatly assist the spine and nerve system to remain healthy, in turn the child remains healthy.
Second, it can help prevent a child's spine from degenerating prematurely.
Third, it can help ensure a properly functioning organ system, which produces an improved immune system. An improved immune system increases the child's resistance to sickness and disease.
All parts of the body have a nerve supply from the spine. Any interference to this will affect the health and vitality of the body. The sooner this interference is corrected, the better the body will be able to function.
